Help Open Ida’s House of Vermont –
A Dementia Care Home with Heart

Hi, I’m Tiney Ray, a nurse practitioner with over 30 years of experience in dementia care, mental health, and walking alongside families through some of their most difficult seasons. I’m reaching out with a mission that’s close to my heart—and urgently needed in our state.

Right now in Vermont, we are facing a crisis in dementia care. The population is aging rapidly. People are being diagnosed younger and living longer—but the number of dementia care homes has not kept pace. Families are being told they must wait 12 months or more for a placement in a memory care home. That’s a year of stress, burnout, and fear. A year of wondering if their loved one will be safe. A year without answers.

And at the same time, state and federal funding for eldercare and dementia grants has slowed or been frozen, leaving innovative, community-based solutions stalled before they begin.
That’s why I’m launching Ida’s House of Vermont—a warm, residential care home for people of all ages living with dementia.

What We’re Building

Ida’s House will not be a facility. It will be a true home, built on compassion, dignity, and skilled care.
We will serve individuals with:
  • Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia—at any age
  • Behavioral health needs alongside cognitive decline
  • Medicaid eligibility, ensuring no one is turned away due to finances

Our staff will receive specialized dementia training in trauma-informed care, communication, redirection techniques, and person-centered engagement.

We do not believe in medicating just to manage behavior. Medications will only be used when all other compassionate, behavioral, and environmental approaches have been exhausted.
Medication will never be used as a substitute for care or as a way to “babysit.” We believe that understanding, connection, and structure come first.

Our home will offer:
  • Safe, beautifully renovated living spaces
  • Daily routines filled with music, nature, and joy
  • A family-style atmosphere that includes spiritual support, cultural sensitivity, and strong family partnerships

Why We Need $750,000

This is a big step—but an essential one. Your donation will directly fund:
  •  Purchase and renovation of the residential property
  • Licensing and compliance with Vermont’s care home regulations
  • Initial staffing and dementia-specific training
  • Furnishings, supplies, and therapeutic resources

We are committed to becoming a Medicaid-certified care provider, so the home remains financially accessible long-term. This fundraising effort is our critical startup phase—to open the doors and begin serving the community.

Why It Matters

Behind every statistic is a real person.
A woman afraid to leave her husband alone while she works two jobs.
A father with early-onset Alzheimer’s who has nowhere to go.
A daughter breaking down in tears because she can’t do it anymore.
They deserve better. You can help give it to them.

How You Can Help

Whether you can give $25 or $25,000—your gift brings us closer to opening our doors.
Your donation will:
  • Shorten the wait for families in crisis
  • Give people living with dementia the care and comfort they deserve
  • Help us create a lasting, loving legacy in our Vermont community

And every single donation will be remembered. As a permanent thank you, we will honor every donor—no matter the amount—with their name included on a plaque inside Ida’s House. Your gift will live on in the walls of this home and the hearts of those it helps.

As we go through this process, we’ll take you along for the journey—sharing updates, photos, and real stories so you can see exactly where your money is going and the lives you’re helping to transform.

This isn’t just our project.
It’s a community mission—and you are part of it.
Please donate today—and share our campaign with friends, coworkers, church groups, and anyone who believes in caring for our most vulnerable neighbors.

With deep gratitude,

Tiney Ray
